Less is More week 326 - Shadow

Hi LIMettes! We've got a new clean and simple card making challenge at Less is More. This week we'd like you to make cards featuring a shadow or shadows.

Jane of Purple Jet Loves Crafts is our super guest designer this week so do pop over to her blog and leave her some comment love!

I decided to make two cards using shadow stamping, where the same image is repeated in layers of light to dark coloured ink to create the illusion of depth.

My first card uses Morning Frost, Evening Ghost and Moon Rock from the Altenew Warm Gray Ink Cubes mini set. I repeatedly stamped the three solid flower layers from Altenew Extra Special. I then die cut the word "hugs" using My Favorite Things Big Hugs Dienamic and layered the letters up on 4 base layers of black card to create a second shadow effect.

My second card uses the same technique and stamp, but this time I used Distress Inks in Spun Sugar and Worn Lipstick (second generation stamping for the middle layer) to create a warmer feel.

I die cut Altenew Happy and stacked it up on a layer of fun foam for dimension and shadow, and added "birthday" underneath from Mama Elephant Labeled Messages

So there you have it: one technique, two cards, four shadows! Thanks for stopping by, and I'm looking forward to seeing your makes for this challenge :)

  1. Two wonderful, subtle and totally elegant examples for this week's challenge Esther. Your 'hugs' word die with the black backing is so inspirational and the generation stamping on both is a classy take on shadow. Have a fun weekend and don't work too hard!!! Hugs to you xx

  2. Oh my - these cards just make me happy - they are so lovely to look at! I particularly like the way you have placed the hugs sentiment vertically and the black layers adding that touch of shadow to the die. The shadow stamping works well too with those solid floral images. Great inspiration! Have a fab weekend x

  6. These are a delight for the eyes, Esther. I LOVE the grey one with the three hues of stamping, and the vertical stacked Hugs just pops off the card, gorgeous. I never think of stamping with Distress Inks but they work so well for this technique xx

  8. Swooning! Full of style, elegance and class here Esther! You have really shown the versatility of that technique to the max with the two different colour ways. Adore the monochrome look - it is cool and contemporary, and the pinks are delightfully feminine and dreamy. Those words are so eyecatching.
